Words@Work

JANE WESTAWAY (r) is a tutor, novelist, reviewer, feature writer and editor. She has taught intelligence-, judgment- and decision-writing for the last 11 years in this country and in Australia, Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea. She was for two years contracted to the New Zealand Securities Commission as a speech writer. She has a BA Hons from Victoria University and a Diploma of Journalism from Canterbury University. She won the PMA Health Journalism Award in 1985, and Best First Book at the 1997 New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards. She has published three books of fiction and two of non-fiction. She was a fellow at Hawthornden International Writers Retreat (Scotland) in 2001, and the Fundacion Valparaiso (Spain) in 2003. She co-edits the review quarterly New Zealand Books.

MARGOT SCHWASS (l) is a writer, editor and tutor who holds a BA Hons and MA from Victoria University. She has taught writing courses in New Zealand, Australia and Papua New Guinea since 2005. As a writer and editor, she has published a book on differing cultural and religious approaches to death, co-edited a study of climate change issues facing New Zealand, and co-authored New Zealand Abroad, a category finalist in the 2003 Montana Book Awards. She works as a writer/editor for the Australia New Zealand School of Government case programme, the Waitangi Tribunal, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, and many other public sector organisations and NGOs. She regularly undertakes assignments for several leading New Zealand publishers and also writes short fiction.
